Having a treadmill at home is a convenient way to get in a workout without traveling to the gym or worrying about the weather. Because treadmills take up considerable space, many manufacturers offer folding models: The deck folds into an upright position against the console when you are not using the machine. The process for bringing the deck down to use your treadmill varies slightly among brands and models. The general procedure is the same for most models, but the steps change depending on whether you have a manual folding treadmill or an easy-assist folding treadmill.
Stand facing the underside of the treadmill deck. Look around and locate the locking lever that holds the deck in the upright position. Depending on the brand, the lever may be on the right or left side of the deck.
Position one hand near the top of the deck, near the rear roller. Push forward slightly, while pulling the locking lever with the other hand. This disengages the deck.
Keep your hands in place while the deck moves forward a couple of inches. If you have an easy-assist treadmill, step away and allow the treadmill to lower the deck until it is firmly seated on the floor. If you have a manual folding treadmill, hold the edge of the deck firmly, and gently lower the deck by stepping back, bending your knees and squatting to rest the deck on the floor.
- Follow proper lifting procedure to lower the deck to the floor if you have a manual model. Push your hips back and bend your knees as if you were performing a squat.
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions for your treadmill model to lower the deck.
